MINUTES

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

JUNE 6, 2013

 

Present:                Harry Budd, Wayne Hagemoser, Larry Trede, Tom Peter, John Slaughter, Lonnie Mannes, Brent Pearce, Joe Traylor, and Sandy Fleck

 

 The meeting was called to order by President Tom Peter at 8:00 a.m.

Minutes of the previous board meeting were distributed (via e-mail).  Motion by Brent Pearce, seconded by Harry Budd, that the minutes be approved as distributed.  Motion carried.

Wayne Hagemoser gave the Treasurer’s report.  Ending monthly balances (5/31/13) were as follows:  Administrative fund,  $3,416.54; Service fund, $15,440.55; Total, $18,857.09;  Golden K Singers, $434.63; One-Z (Project Eliminate), $1,268.96; Moore Tornado Relief, $300.00.  Checks for Project Eliminate ($1250) and Moore Tornado Relief ($300) will be written today.  Motion by Larry Trede, seconded by Brent Pearce, that the Treasurer’s report be approved as presented.

Peter announced that 5 club members will participate in the Camp OK checkout at the YMCA camp near Boone on Friday.

Peter announced that Bethesda Food Pantry will be presented a check today for $1500 as part of our charity donation program.

Peter reviewed the agenda for the Club and Foundation joint annual meeting today.  Trede and Hagemoser will give reports and the election of officers/directors for 2013-2014 will take place.

The September installation luncheon was discussed.  Various locations were discussed.  Motion by Wayne Hagemoser, seconded by Larry Trede, that the luncheon be held on September 26th at the Ames Golf and Country Club.  Motion carried.

Peter indicated that he was looking into several possibilities for club shirts.  Several members have expressed interest in having “Kiwanis logo” shirts.  Peter will have a report at a future club meeting.

Trede indicated that it 2013-2014 club dues will need to be collected starting in July.  He suggested that the same process be used next year as was done last.  Membership needs to be certified by September 30th to Kiwanis International.  The issue of a $1 increase in the KI Foundation donation was discussed.  There was unanimous consent among board members that the $1 increase be absorbed by the club and that membership dues remain at $120/year.

Trede gave a Project Community Service report.  Report is attached to the minutes.

Harry Budd volunteered to attend a meeting sponsored by Youth and Shelter Services to recognize area Kiwanis clubs.  It will be held on June 11th, Pavilion Park, Nevada, 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.

Sandy Fleck mentioned that Jody Melcher be nominated as an unsung hero for the greater Ames community.  She will investigate further the necessary steps to complete the nomination.

Peter indicated that Dick Wilson will be chairing the membership meeting next week.  Hagemoser will also be gone next week.

The next board meeting will be held on July 11th.  Club will not meet on July4th.

The meeting was adjourned by Peter at 9:00 a.m.
