OCTOBER 24, 2013

 

Attendance:  67 members

Location:  First United Methodist Church

 

The meeting was called to order by President Don Muff at 9:30 a.m.  Opening ceremonies were led by Gene Pollmann.  Invocation was given by Craig Ause.

 

Announcements:

Jack Adams has returned to Mayo Clinic.  No additional information available regarding his condition.

 

Muff announced that there will be two public forums the future of electricity production in Ames.  Forums are to provide information about whether to continue to use coal for energy production or possibly switch to natural gas.  Forms are:  Monday, October 28th, City Council Chambers, 7:00 p.m.; and Wednesday, October 30th, Scheman Building, ISU, 3:00 p.m.

 

Jim Cornette distributed a handout on “Rock On” in Retirement – a symposium for Retirees in the Ames Community to be held on Wednesday, November 6th, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Reiman Ballroom at the ISU Alumni Center.  Three presentations will be given -- Lifestyle in Retirement, Estate Planning Make Fun, and Rethinking Your Home as You Age.

 

Muff announced by Larry Vallery has updated the new member packet.  Copies are available to give to prospective new members.

 

Humor was given by Lowell Richardson.

 

Program:

“Care and Support after Mitchellville” by Bev Kruempel and Kelly Abel.  Kelly Abel told about her experiences following release from the Iowa’s Women Correctional Institution at Mitchellville and how she successfully adjusted to her new life.  An outstanding presentation!! 

 

Next Week’s Program:

“Ungrounded/A National Meeting on Technology and a British Airways Flight” by Cassidy Williams, ISU Computer Science Student.

 

The meeting was adjourned by Muff at 10:30 a.m.
