MEMBERSHIP MINUTES

JANUARY 9, 2014

 

Attendance:  61 members, 9 guests (5 interclub, Nevada Kiwanis)

Location:  First United Methodist Church

 

The meeting was called to order by President Don Muff at 9:30 a.m.  Opening ceremonies were led by Roger Andersen.  Invocation was given by Don Hotchkiss.

 

Bidding on Wall Clock.  Story County Kiwanis Clubs were honored by the Story County Philanthropy Alliance for our service project work with children and other agencies in the County.  Jody Melcher was present to talk about the wall clock that was presented to the clubs.  The clock will be auctioned through a “silent bid” auction until January 31st.  Proceeds from the winning bid will be donated to Project Eliminate in the name of the winner and also the club to which the bidder is a member.  Details regarding the clock and bidding process are on the Golden K website.

 

New Member.  Howard Lantz was introduced as a new member by Don Hotchkiss.

 

Pancake Days Tickets.  Members were reminded that Pancake Days tickets are available from Pete Peterson.

 

Interclub.   John Johnson announced that Golden K will have an interclub to the Ames Noon Club on January 17th.  Interested members should contact John.  Noon lunch will cost $8.50 and Ames Noon Club meets at the Ames Golf and Country Club.

 

Humor.  Humor was given by Roger Andersen.

 

Speaker.  Carl Vondra gave a presentation on “Hydraulic Fracking --  Some Concerns.”  Carl showed several slides and talked about some of the pitfalls and concerns with fracking for oil in the northern states of the U.S.

 

The meeting was adjourned by Muff at 10:30 a.m.
