Attendance:  72 members, 8 guests

Location:  St. Paul Lutheran Church

 

The meeting was called to order by President Dick Wilson at 9:30 a.m.  Opening ceremonies were led by Roger Andersen.  Invocation was given by Craig Ause.

 

Sharing Time:

1.      Don McKowen.  It was announced that Don McKowen, a former long-time Kiwanis member, passed away recently.

2.      “Run for Roses.”  Don Muff thanked the Golden K members who participated in the “Run for Roses.”  Even was quite successful.

3.      Story County Freedom Flight.  Three Golden K members participated in the Story County Freedom Flight to Washington DC this past week.

4.      Wes Buchele Honored.  Wes Buchele has been awarded the Anson Marston Medal which is given to an ISU Alum for outstanding achievement in advancing engineering science, technology or policy having national and international impact in academics, industry, public service, government or other venues.  Congratulations, Wes!!

Announcements:

1.      Interclub to Boone Kiwanis Club.  The interclub to Boone for today has been rescheduled until next week, October 17th.  Contact Dick Wilson or John Johnson if interested in attending.  Meeting is held at noon at a restaurant in Boone.

2.      MICA Thank You Note.  Wilson read a thank you note from MICA for our contribution to their program.

3.      Road Side Cleanup.  Gene Pollmann announced that the 2-mile roadside clean-up project will be held today.  Meet at the Holub parking lot at 12:30 p.m.

4.      Roland Kiwanis Club 60th Anniversary.  Wilson read a letter of invitation from the Roland Kiwanis Club inviting everyone to celebrate their 60th anniversary on Sunday, October 26th, 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm, Roland Area Community Center.  Dinner and program along with a silent auction to benefit Project Eliminate will be held.  Cost is $10/person.  Advance reservation required.  Reservations dues on October 17th.  Contact Larry Trede if interested.

5.      Paper Trailer & Today’s Refreshments.  Duane Brodie announced that today’s cookies were provided by an anonymous member of St. Paul church.  Also, he expressed concern that someone is moving partially filled boxes in the paper trailer making it difficult to properly space them for filling.  An e-mail was also sent to all members outlining the placement of large cardboard boxes for filling with paper, etc.

 

Humor.  Provided by Lowell Richardson

 

Program.  Today’s program was “Ames Police Experiences” by Josh Vanderzwaag, a member of the Ames Police Department.  He spoke about his training and background as a member of the Ames Police Department.  Also, described the equipment used and a typical day as a policemen in Ames.

 

Program Next Week.  Next week’s program is “CyRide – An Update by Ron Holm, Ames CyRide.  Meeting next week is at St. Paul Lutheran.

 

The meeting was adjourned by Wilson at 10:30 a.m.
