“KIWANIS – 100TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION”

 

Attendance:  61 members, 5 (Town & Country interclub) guests, 4 other guests

Location:  First United Methodist Church

Sharing Time:

1.      Calculus Life.  Jim Cornette showed a short video about “Calculus Life.”

2.      KI 100th Birthday.  Wilson outlined plan for 100th birthday celebration.  Merle Core was introduced as a charter member of Ames Golden K Kiwanis Club.

3.      Special Guests.  Jody Melcher, Gov.-Elect, Nebraska-Iowa District was introduced along with Geri Bugg, Lt. Gov. District 11.  Fred Bunce and Tom Leimer were introduced as past Lt. Gov. for District 11.

4.      Greetings from KI President.  Wilson read an e-mail sent to all Kiwanians around the world congratulating everyone on their service to Kiwanis and to celebrate with joy the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis.

5.      ROMEO.  Les Thompson shared his membership experience in ROMEO  (Retired Old Men Eating Out).

6.      “100 Coins for 100 Years.”  Wilson reminded members to contribute “100 coins for 100 years” with money going to Project Eliminate.  The bucket containing the coins was placed on the table and is nearly full!!

 

Announcements:

1.      February Program Newsletter.  Trede announced that February program newsletter is available and was e-mailed the previous day.  Extra copies are available.

 

Humor.  Provided by Harry Budd.

 

Program:  “Kiwanis 100 Year History in Pictures,” by Bob Mitchell, Des Moines, Past Governor, Nebraska-Iowa District.  Bob talked about the history, philosophy, and future of Kiwanis showing some slides and video. 

 

“100 Coins for 100 Years”  --  Post meeting announced.  Members were encouraged to make a guess as to the total amount of monies in coins, checks, and bills in the bucket.  Guesses ranged from a low of $276.45 to a high of $1,492.30.  Actual amount:  $805.06.  Closest guess without going over:  $732.00.

 

Refreshments.  Members enjoyed a birthday cake and coffee following the meeting.
