The meeting was called to order by President Dick Wilson at 9:30 a.m.

Sharing Time and Announcements:

 

1.      Terry Wycoff.  Lonnie Mannes introduced Terry Wycoff as a potential new member.  Terry has applied for membership and will be joining the club in the very near future.

2.      Golden K named as “Silver Level Membership in the Impact Circle” by KI.  The award recognizes Kiwanis clubs committed to adding more “hands and hearts” to the service they do for others.

3.      Pancake Ticket Sales.  Tom Peter reported that as of today Pancake Days ticket sales and donations are approximately $1500 greater than a year ago.  For members who wish to sign up or check on when they will be working, go to the Ames Noon Club website, www.amesnoonkiwanis.org and look for “sign up here” on the home page and then follow the instructions.

4.      Project Eliminate.  Peter also announced that members can still donate and be recognized as a “Zeller” contributor until June 30th.  The Nebraska-Iowa Foundation will provide $250 towards a member who has not contributed a “Zeller” previously.  Also, our club has $800 from the “100 coins” project that can be used towards any member wishing to contribute a Zeller.  Contact Peter if interested.

5.      Webmaster Position.  Wilson announced that the board a by-laws change that will create a Webmaster position on the Board of Directors.  The proposal will be e-mailed to the membership and voted on at our March 19th meeting.

6.      “Roaring 20s 100th Birthday Celebration.”  Wilson announced that the Des Moines Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a “Roaring 20s” party in celebration of KI 100th birthday.  Scheduled for March 20th, Downtown Holiday Inn, $35/person, interclubs are welcome, come dressed in costume.

7.      Waterloo Kiwanis Club.  Join the Waterloo Kiwanis Club in a 100 birthday celebration on May 20th.  Cost is $25/person, is a fund-raiser for club, held at Winter Hall, Allen College, Jane Erickson featured speaker is Jane Erickson.  Reservations made by May 1st.  Interclubs are welcome. 

8.      Teen Maze.  Duane Brodie reminded members to sign up for Teen Maze.  Has signup sheets available.

 

Humor.  Provided by John Slaughter

 

Program.  “50 Years of Changes in the Newspaper Industry,” by Bill Haglund, retired newspaper man in the central Iowa area.  Interesting program where Bill described the vast changes in the newspaper industry.

 

Program Next Week.  “Potato Bean, What is It?” by Steen Cannon, ISU.

 

The meeting was adjourned by Wilson at 10:30 pm.
