The meeting was called to order by President Don Muff at 9:30 a.m. Opening ceremonies were led by Roger Andersen. Invocation was given by Craig Ause. Dennis Senne was introduced as a guest and potential new member.
Announcements:
Paper Trailer. The fifth trailer load of paper was picked up last Saturday. Don Muff and John Slaughter promoted the paper recycling project at “Mel in the Morning,” a daily radio program on KASI.
Story County Philanthropy Recognition. All Story County Kiwanis clubs will be recognized by the Story County Philanthropy Alliance for our Teen Maze Program. A recognition program and dinner will be held on November 14th. Duane Brodie and John Johnson will represent the Ames Golden K club.
Teen Maze Club Coordinators. John Johnson and Duane Brodie will represent our club on the central planning steering committee for the 2014 Teen Maze program. The first meeting of the committee will be on November 7th. Teen Maze is scheduled for March 24-28, 2014 at the Boone County Fairgrounds.
“Rock On in Retirement.” A reminder of the symposium for Retirees in the Ames area to be held on November 6th, 8:30 to 12:30 p.m. in the Reiman Ballroom, ISU Alumni Center. Three sessions will be given.
Good Neighbor Concert. The Golden K Singers will be performing as one of the choirs at a concert to be held on November 3, 2:00 p.m., St. Cecilia Catholic Church. All are welcome to attend.

Program. Cassidy Williams, ISU Computer Science Student, presented an outstanding program on “Undergrounded/ A National Meeting on Technology and a British Airways Flight. On a British Airways plane ride from San Francisco to London, Williams and her group had to come up with a concept that they wanted to pitch, something that would cause social change. Williams' group formulated a pitch: a community where women in science, technology, energy and mathematics could get advice and learn more about STEM.
