MEMBERSHIP MINUTES

Attendance:  60 members

Location:  First United Methodist Church

 

The meeting was called to order by President Don Muff at 9:30 a.m.  Opening ceremonies were led by Roger Andersen.  Invocation was given by Bob Faar. 

 

Announcements.

 

1.      Fred Bunce’s Wife.  Fred announced that his wife fell this past week while visiting relatives in Minneapolis.  She is recovering and his expected to be home soon.

 

2.      Fred Walker.  Continuing to make progress; however, is having some problems with arthritis in his neck.

 

3.      Senior Variety Show.  Golden K has again been asked to help with ushering at the Senior Variety Show to be held on August 15th (Friday evening, 7:30 p.m.) and August 17th (Sunday afternoon, 2:00 p.m.).  Interested members can contact Pete Peterson or Marilyn Johnson, 515-290-4323.

 

4.      One-Z.  Tom Peter indicated that the club is very close to its 4th One-Z for Project Eliminate.  Could reach the $1250 goal needed today.

 

5.      Fund-raising.  Peter indicated that two fund-raising projects might be available in late August.  We have been asked to supply 15-20 people to work in a food tent for the Farm Program Show and ISU Dining may need assistance for one of its dining sites during ISU Fall Orientation about the same time.  Should have more information on both soon.

 

6.      Golden K Club Shirts.  Peter asked for a show of hands for members interested in purchasing Kiwanis blue or gold shirts.  If 15-20 are interested, he will inquire with the printing company about cost.

 

7.      Good Neighbor Assistance Donation.  A check for $750 was presented to Mike Fritz, Director of Good Neighbor Assistance as part of our charity donation program.  Mike spoke about how the funds are used to assistance individuals in need of housing, food vouchers, and other basic needs and thanked the club for our support.

 

Humor.  Provided by Sandy Fleck.

 

Program.  Paul Heidbreder, Publisher, Ames Tribune, on “Present & Future of Ames Tribune.”  Paul is new to the Ames community and talked about his vision for the Tribune and significant trends in the newspaper and media industry. 

 

Next Week.  Program next week is “Wildlife Care, When We Can and Can’t Help,” by Andrea Moeller, ISU Vet. College.

The meeting was adjourned by Muff at 10:30 a.m.
