Ames Golden K Kiwanis held their annual luncheon on September 26 at the Ames Golf & Country Club. The luncheon began with all present joining in singing the National Anthem and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a collection of songs by our always entertaining Golden K Singers {pictured below} under the direction of Joe Traylor. A ceremony to honor Golden K’s six deceased 2018-19 members was followed by the introduction of eleven new members and their sponsors. John Arthur {pictured above} was presented the Golden K Kiwanian of The Year award by Golden K President Larry Vallery. Iowa-Nebraska Kiwanis Governor Lenora Hanna {pictured below with spouse Milford and Larry Vallery-left and Division 11 Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor Randy Griffith–right} recognized Ames Golden K as a Distinguished Kiwanis Club, and then presented “A Look Ahead”—remarks that were very meaningful, sincere and poignant. Other distinguished guests at the Luncheon were Joe Melcher, Trustee, IA-NE District 5 and Jody Melcher, Past Governor IA-NE District. The luncheon concluded with Division 11 Lt. Governor Randy Griffith recognizing Retiring and New Golden K Officers and Directors and with remarks by outgoing President Larry Vallery.

Kiwanis “K” Garden 2019

The lovely flower garden at the corner of 20th Street and Grand Avenue was sponsored by Ames Noon Kiwanis Club beginning in 1995. In 1999, Ames Golden K Kiwanis with the support of the City of Ames who provides the bedding plants–began planting and maintaining the garden and has done so continuously for the past 20 years. Pictured is Tom Peter and his wife Judy Peter who do an outstanding job of making the Golden K flower garden a landmark that the entire community as well as visitors to Ames can enjoy.
Northwood Preschool 2019

Ames Golden K Kiwanis recently donated $600 in support of Northwood Preschool’s outstanding education programs designed for three and four year old children, plus five year old early kindergarten students. Golden K’s donation will be used to purchase new books for their library and various literacy projects that serve Northwood’s 300 students. Blast Back to School 2019

The Story County Blast Back to School Fair held August 9 at Ames Middle School helped relieve the burden of back to school expenses for local families of K-12 students. This is a community effort coordinated by many Story County organizations and groups of volunteers. For the second consecutive year, Ames Golden K Kiwanis members contributed significantly to this event donating a large number of items for 24 different types of “back to school” supplies. This, along with cash donations, totaled approximately $1,800!
ERP Support 2019

Ames Golden K recently presented a check for $1,000 in support of the Ames Emergency Residence Project. The ERP’s eight employees serve many needy families and their housing site is often at full occupancy.
