Interclub With Noon Kiwanis

Don Muff: Kiwanian of the Year

Congratulations to Don Muff!   Don received the Ames Golden K “Kiwanian of the Year” award from President Pete Peterson.  Below is the article submitted to local media describing Don and his outstanding work for our club.

Donald J. “Don” Muff, Ames, was presented the 2017 Ames Golden K Kiwanis Club’s “Kiwanian of the Year” Award at its recent Officer/Director Installation Banquet.  This award is presented annually by the Golden K Club to a member who exemplifies the qualities of club leadership, active participation in club activities, and fulfilling the Kiwanis motto, “improving the world, one child and one community at a time.”  Don has been a member of Ames Golden K for nine years.  He was President of Ames Golden K in 2013-2014.  He currently serves as the Chair, Interclub and Public Relations/Publicity Committees.  He has been involved with many other service programs of the club including the current Golden K Listeners program conducted at the Edwards Elementary School.

Ames Golden K Kiwanis held its annual Installation of Officers Luncheon at Ames Golf & Country Club September 28.  In the photo above, Jim Dane, Governor, Kiwanis Nebraska-Iowa District, addresses the crowd.  In his remarks “It’s GREAT To Be A Kiwanian”, he congratulated Golden K members for the initiatives they are taking to increase membership, including the installation of eight new members in early September, and the success of the  Listeners reading program for kindergarten and first grade students at Ames Edwards Elementary–and soon to be expanded to Sawyer Elementary.

In addition to Golden K Members, their spouses, and Jim Dane, the guests included Geri Derner, Lieutenant Governor,Kiwanis Division 11 NE-IA District.

Golden K’s own Golden K Singers, pictured, under the direction of Joe Traylor, gave a rousing performance that inspired all who were present.

Deceased members William “Bill” Wunder, Albert “Al” Wagner and Wesley “Wes” Buchele were honored, as were Wayne Hagemoser, retiring Club Treasurer, and retiring Song Leader Roger Andersen.  Gerald Solbeck, Bill Shrum, Larry Trede and Kent Ziebell  were recognized for their efforts to recruit new members.

Dale Brentnall, pictured here with Pete Peterson, was awarded the Kiwanis “Legion of Honor” as a 50 year Kiwanis Member.

Another Giant Paper Load

On September 29 Ames Golden K had another Big Opportunity in the Paper Recycling Project: come and get about 2,000 lbs of paper from ISU Press.
