GNEA– 20 Years!

Ames Golden K Kiwanis recently presented a check to Good Neighbor Emergency Assistance to support their efforts as they mark 20 years helping families in need with rent, utility, food and fuel assistance. BLAST Back to School 2017

Ames Golden K members have taken the opportunity to join those who are helping Ames and Story County children and families who may not be able to purchase “back to school” supplies. The program is coordinated by the Boys and Girls Club, YSS, and the Ames Volunteer Center. A “Back to School” Fair will be held in mid-August at Ames Middle School where supplies will be distributed. This year the program hopes to provide assistance to 800 youth and families.
Ames Golden K members have donated nearly $1,000 in school supplies and cash in support of the “Back to School” program. Pictured are Golden K members who attended their weekly meeting and displayed some of the many donated school supplies.

ChildServe Award 2017

On August 3 Ames Golden K presented a check for $1500 to the Ames Division of ChildServe to support the 550 Story County children that receive numerous care services such as the Respite Care Program which provides weekend care for ChildServe’s children. 2017 Summer Enrichment Workers Thanked!

The Ames Schools Summer Enrichment program started June 6 and completed July 14. Ames Golden K served a prepared hot lunch to students during the six-week duration of the program which was held at the Ames Middle School. Pictured is a group of the Summer Enrichment student participants who showed their appreciation for the Golden K’s support of the program. Golden K members who volunteered for the program include John Arthur, John Slaughter, Joe Traylor, Alan Spohnheimer, Bob Sperry, Dennis Senne, Bruce Wight, Duane Brodie, Gina Spohnheimer, Larry Trede, Larry Vallery, and Ron Skrdla.
